Mr. McCann retired as Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of United Dominion Realty Trust, Inc., in March 2001. Mr. McCann headed United Dominion, a NYSE-listed REIT located in Richmond, Virginia, as CEO for 27 years. As CEO, he oversaw United Dominion's growth from $3 million in real estate investments in Virginia and three employees to more than $4 billion of apartments nationally and 2,500 employees at the time of his retirement. The company is often cited as the prototype for the modern real estate investment trust, a national, property-specific operating company with the investment capability to acquire and renovate and develop.
Mr. McCann was a long time member of the Board of Directors of the National Multi-Housing Council, a trade association of large apartment owners, and chaired its Legislative and Tax Committee. He is also a member of the Urban Land Institute. Mr. McCann was on the Board of Directors of Storage USA until its merger with Security Capital Group in 2002. He currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Virginia Housing Development Authority, the Virginia state housing finance agency.
Mr. Akin joined McCann Realty Partners in August 2012 as its President. Matt has over 23 years of multi-family real estate experience. His wide-ranging experience includes acquisitions/dispositions, joint ventures, development, asset management, redevelopment, as well as finance and accounting. Matt came to MRP from UDR, Inc (formerly called United Dominion Realty Trust). Matt led the Acquisitions and Dispositions Department at UDR, and has led transactions of almost $8 billion in more than 40 markets across the country. Matt helped lead the growth of UDR from a total capitalization of $4 billion to $10 billion. Among his highlights at UDR include the forming and management of a Joint Venture with Kuwait Finance House and the acquisition of the GP interest in the more than $2 billion Hanover portfolio with Met Life.
Mr. Akin has a BBA in Finance from the University of Oklahoma and an MBA from the University of Texas, at Dallas. He has also completed executive education at Columbia University in New York City and is a member of the Urban Land Institute and the National Multi-Housing Council.
Mr. Inlow has over 30 years of experience with apartment acquisitions and management. Since November 2003, Mr. Inlow has provided professional consulting services to the multifamily industry on matters related to acquisitions, dispositions, asset management operations, and through an affiliation with Planned Property Realty Corp. in Richmond, Virginia, conducts commercial real estate brokerage. Mr. Inlow also is president of Jessie's Wish, Inc., a Virginia non-profit corporation dedicated to awareness, education and financial assistance for patients and families dealing with eating disorders.
Prior to co-founding MRP in 2004, Mr. Inlow served as president of Summit Realty Group, Inc, in Richmond, Virginia, from September 2001 through November 2003. Prior to joining Summit Realty, from December 1999 to August 2001, he was vice president of acquisitions for EEA Realty, LLC in Alexandria, Virginia, where he was responsible for acquisition, disposition and financing of company assets, which were primarily garden apartment properties. Prior to joining EEA Realty, from December 1992 to November 1999, Mr. Inlow worked for United Dominion Realty Trust, Inc., a publicly-traded REIT, as assistant vice president and senior acquisition analyst, where he was responsible for the acquisition of garden apartment communities. Mr. Inlow is a trustee of the G REIT, Inc. and T REIT, Inc. Liquidating Trusts.
Mr. Wallace has diverse legal transactional experience in corporate finance, real estate debt and equity placement, corporate securities, venture capital and mergers and acquisitions. Prior to co-founding MRP in 2004, Mr. Wallace was corporate counsel and assistant secretary of United Dominion Realty Trust, Inc., a publicly-traded real estate investment trust. While at UDR, Mr. Wallace managed general corporate matters for over 150 affiliated entities, negotiated and executed numerous real estate acquisitions and dispositions and provided legal support on over $1 billion in real estate financing transactions. From 1994 to 1998, Mr. Wallace practiced corporate, securities, and merger and acquisition law as an associate in the corporate section at McGuire Woods in Richmond, Virginia.
Mr. Wallace has a BA in History and a law degree from the University of Virginia.
Mr. Wood is Director of Development for McCann Realty Partners LLC. He joined the company in 2007 and has over 30 years of experience in the multi-family development and construction industry. Previously, Mr. Wood was employed by UDR for 13 years where he served as Senior Vice President in charge of construction and development. Mr. Wood oversees land acquisition for development, and construction for MRP. Under his direction, MRP currently has 324 multi-family apartment homes under construction in the Houston area, and has recently completed two other projects totaling over 600 apartment homes. In his 30 years in the multi-family industry, Mr. Wood has developed and/or constructed over 17,000 multi-family homes in major markets across the United States. Mr. Wood graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a B.S.E.D. (Construction Management) degree and earned a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Dallas.
Mr. Phipps joined MRP in April 2007 in the role of Asset Manager. His responsibilities include directing and overseeing the management companies to maximize the investment potential on each specific asset.
Mr. Phipps has over 17 years of experience in the field of apartment management in a variety of positions. He served 5 years as the property manager for a large community owned by a national REIT and 3 years in Richmond, Virginia as a regional manager for a local management company. His background in property management includes new construction lease-ups, asset management, major property renovations and management of a portfolio of 14 properties ranging from Class A to Class C.
